How to Choose the right Earplugs?

First, it is worth deciding where you plan to use the earplugs – do you need them for one specific activity, or are you looking for a versatile solution for multiple situations? The majority of the earplugs in our range are multifunctional, meaning you can successfully adapt them to more than just one occasion. Once you try a few different types and use them for a while, you will easily discover the best options to help you manage daily noise challenges.

Determine Your Primary Use Case

For Multifunctional Use: Daily Life, Travel, and Shared Spaces
My current personal favorite is Hears ONE®. During the summer, whether traveling by plane or staying at hotels near pools and loud parties, these earplugs help me avoid sensory fatigue and prevent flare-ups of hyperacusis (increased sensitivity to sound). I even wore them in the pool – with music playing in the background, I could still talk to the people next to me perfectly and clearly.
I also use these earplugs in shared office spaces so that background noise doesn’t distract me so intensely.
We all know well that we can only perform a task qualitatively when we are fully focused, rather than having one ear tuned into colleagues’ phone calls or the hum of the coffee machine. Other excellent choices for these universal, everyday solutions include the Haspro Universal and Bollsen Life+ models. Most of them come with different sizes of ear tips in the box, making it easy to find the perfect fit for you.

-For Working in Noisy Environments
If you work in an extremely loud environment – such as a production plant, construction site, or repair workshop, or if you work in a club or bar, or navigate a shopping mall at peak hours – your hearing requires protection. For these environments, I recommend choosing models such as Haspro Soft Work, Hears ONE®, Hears Plus®, Haspro Universal, Haspro Moldable, or classic Haspro foam protection. All of these models are certified personal protective equipment that reliably protects against harmful environmental noise.
Disposable foam earplugs are a great and affordable way to test different levels of noise attenuation. For some clients, this specific type works best. My personal tip: it is crucial to insert this type of earplug according to the correct instructions – meaning, gently lifting the top of your ear with one hand and inserting the plug while opening your mouth slightly (this straightens the ear canal).

For Sleep and Sensitive Ears
If you are looking for comfort during sleep or completely dislike products that are inserted deep into the ear, Haspro Moldable (shapeable silicone) earplugs are the ideal choice. They are irreplaceable in the pool and on airplanes when pressure changes, gently contouring to the surface of the ear bowl. Furthermore, you can adjust their thickness depending on whether you want maximum silence or just want to dim the environment. They work perfectly for me during sleep because the surface remains flat against the ear, causing no pressure when lying on my side.
For sleeping, I also highly recommend the specialized Bollsen Life+ and Haspro Sleep models. They sit slightly deeper in the ear canal, hold firmly throughout the night, are extremely comfortable for side sleepers, and do not fall out.

Auto-moto sport
For maximum protection on the track or the open road, choosing high-performance earplugs like Hears PLUS® or BOLLSEN Moto+ are essential to reduce deafening wind and engine noise. These models feature precision filters that lower dangerous decibels while ensuring you can still hear vital environmental sounds and communication.

For Maximum Focus and Loud Events
For maximum concentration at work – whether you work in a noisy office or industrial premises – I highly recommend Hears Plus® These earplugs are also ideal for concerts, festivals, and other loud events. They effectively filter out harmful frequencies, ensuring the music sound remains clear without losing any of its quality.

What’s SNR?
When choosing earplugs, you will notice the acronym SNR (Single Number Rating). This is a standardized index indicating how many decibels (dB) the earplugs reduce the environmental sound by. For example, if the noise level in your environment reaches 90 dB and the earplugs have an SNR of 25 dB, the sound reaching your ears will be reduced to a safer 65 dB.
It is not always necessary to choose the highest possible attenuation, as the goal is often to create a safe acoustic environment without causing over-isolation.

Why is it worth protecting your hearing today?
In cities, noise levels rise by an average of 1 decibel every few years. At first glance, this seems like very little, but the decibel scale for sound is logarithmic, not linear. This means that sound intensity increases by factors, not by small steps.
For example, every additional 3-decibel increase actually doubles the sound energy. When the safe 80 dB limit is crossed (which is roughly the level of heavy city traffic or a running hairdryer), this double energy begins to directly damage our hearing cells twice as fast. If we can safely spend 8 hours in an 80 dB environment, when the sound rises to 83 dB, the safe time cuts in half – to 4 hours, and at 86 dB – to just 2 hours.
Constantly being in open spaces where the noise limit is routinely exceeded, while trying to concentrate amidst a flood of stimuli, drains our nervous system’s resources. Hearing protection is not just about seeking silence; it is about preserving your energy and health. I wish you the best of luck in choosing your earplugs and managing your sensitivity to sound!
